What is MLC 2006?
The Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006), entered into force on 20 August 2013 and establishes minimum standards for working and living conditions for all seafarers serving on ships, providing labour protection to more than 1.2 million seafarers worldwide. Its primary objective is to promote decent working conditions for seafarers while simultaneously ensuring fair economic competition among shipowners operating to high quality standards. The Convention consolidates and modernises more than 68 international labour standards related to the maritime sector developed over the past 80 years.
The MLC, 2006 sets out fundamental rights for seafarers across a wide range of employment matters and has been designed for global application, with a clear regulatory framework that is easily updatable and uniformly enforced. It is intended to serve as a key international reference instrument, commonly referred to as the “fourth pillar” of the international regulatory regime for quality shipping, complementing the core conventions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Captain
Hiring a yacht captain is a key decision to ensure safety and enjoyment of the experience at sea. The skipper is responsible not only for sailing, but also for managing the crew and overall maintenance of the yacht. Some main responsibilities would be:
The Captain is directly responsible for the safe navigation of the yacht, must have knowledge of routes, weather conditions and ensure that the yacht is ready to sail at all times.
Keep the yacht in perfect maintenance and ready to sail at all times.
Supervise the maintenance of machines and ensure that everything is in good condition.
Manage the yacht crew positions, supervise their work, coordinate schedules and comply with local and international regulations in different ports as well as plan attractive routes and trips.
Will attend carefully to the needs of owners and guests, as well as be able to handle any emergency on board.
Will handle the necessary documentation related to the yacht, such as permits, sailing records or insurance. Not forgetting the legal aspects relating to crew employment contracts.
Chief Stewardess
The role of chief stewardess has a fundamental aspect within the yacht. She will be responsible for coordinating and leading the team of on-board stewardesses to ensure exceptional service to guests for an unforgettable stay on board.
Will oversee and coordinate all yacht attendant team activitates, to ensure that all protocols and service standards are aligned as well as providing a silver service setting table as well as effective communication with guests. You must ensure the maintenance and presentation of both guest and crew services.

A yacht stewardess is the professional person in charge of providing care and service to owners or guests on board a luxury yacht. Silver service is required at all times.

They must keep the yacht in perfect conditions of cleaning, laundry care, order, both in guest and crew area.

All this without forgetting that they must be trained in emergency procedures and marine safety.
Deckhand
A deckhand is a key member of the crew of a yacht, primarily responsible for tasks related to maintenance, operation and safety on the deck of the vessel. This role is fundamental in both private luxury and commercial yachts.
You should keep the deck clean, polished along with other areas of the yacht..
During manoeuvres, assist in handling ropes and moorings during berthing and sailing manoeuvres as well as preparing and deploying equipment such as auxiliary boats, lifeboats and defences. When required, he will prepare the water toys for use and enjoyment by owners or guests.
Maintain coordination with other crew members in the collaboration of daily operations.

Engineer
A chief engineer on a yacht is responsible for the correct functioning of all mechanical, electrical and propulsion systems of the yacht. This position is critical to ensuring that everything operates properly, ensuring the comfort and safety of the owners, guests and crew.
Inspect, maintain and repair engines, generators and other propulsion systems, attention to fuel level . Electrical and electronic systems must be properly maintained to ensure that all equipment operates correctly and avoid further failures or breakdowns.
Will maintain the optimal condition of plumbing, water tanks, sewage and water distribution systems as well as ventilation systems which are essential for guest comfort.
The engine room shall be maintained in good working order, with proper cleaning following strict safety protocols. Knowledge of fire prevention and fighting in the engine room, evacuation and emergency procedures at sea.
On larger yachts, having more number and staff, will supervise the technical team.
Y4, Y3, Y2, Y1: These are the different levels of certification for yacht engineers, recognized by the MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) in the UK. The highest rating, Y1, is awarded to engineers with experience working on large and complex yachts.
Spa therapist
A spa therapist on a luxury yacht is a crew member who specializes in providing personal care and wellness services to owners and guests. This role is highly valued on high-end yachts, where passengers expect personalized spa treatments.
Performs various massages, such as relaxing, therapeutic, Swedish and sports, as well as body treatments such as exfoliants and wraps. It also offers facial and beauty treatments with high quality products, as well as manicure, pedicure and skin care services.
Some therapists may offer alternative therapies such as aromatherapy, reflexology and acupressure, as well as yoga sessions, meditation and breathing techniques for integral wellness. Provide health and wellness advice, including recommendations on beauty products and relaxation techniques.
They adapt the treatments according to the tastes and preferences of the clients, offering an exclusive and personalized approach. They also keep the spa space clean and organized, ensuring that facilities such as massage room, sauna and jacuzzi are in perfect condition.
Chef
The yacht chef is the crew member in charge of providing a first-rate culinary experience to owners and guests. This role is fundamental, as the quality and personalization of meals are essential on board.
You will plan and prepare custom menus according to dietary preferences and food restrictions, creating special menus for various occasions, from formal dinners to deck barbecues, with dishes of Mediterranean, Asian, French cuisine and more. Use the freshest ingredients, ensuring their quality, and perform regular inventory to control stock and avoid waste.
The chef will also prepare nutritious meals for the crew, considering their long working hours and energy needs. Keep the kitchen in perfect conditions of cleaning and storage, meeting the highest standards of food safety.
Will work in close coordination with the team of hostesses to ensure that the service is presented at the highest level of presentation and punctuality.
Pilot
A flight commander on a private or charter jet is the primary pilot responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the aircraft. This high level position requires extensive experience and technical and leadership skills, as the pilot is also responsible for crew and passengers.
The duties of a flight commander include flying the aircraft safely from take-off to landing, following established protocols. Must perform pre-flight checks and monitor navigation, air control communication and weather conditions. You must also calculate the amount of fuel required for the route and ensure that all permits and flight authorizations are in order, especially for international flights that require additional paperwork.
In crew management, the commander must coordinate with the rest of the team, which may include co-pilots and flight attendants. It must ensure that the crew is well prepared and follows safety procedures, acting as a leader in emergency situations, managing response and making quick and effective decisions.
On private or charter flights, the commander interacts directly with passengers, ensuring that their needs are met and providing a personalized and safe service. Also responsible for compliance with local and international regulations.
Flight attendant
A private jet flight attendant private jet, also known as a cabin crew in private aviation has a role that goes beyond the usual services offered by commercial airlines, requires a personalised and unique approach as it must be tailored to the specific needs of passengers who are often high profile.
The flight attendant must be attentive to every detail to offer a luxury service.
As on commercial flights, they must be trained with all safety and emergency regulatory procedures.
Preparation before and after the flight, which may include cabin preparation, cleaning, special attentions to passengers.
Also have flexibility around the different schedules or last minute changes and maintain at all times a know-how stay and discretion.
All flight attendants must have up-to-date professional certificates such as TCP certification, issued in an authorized training center, aeronautical medical certificate, age of majority, English language proficiency being highly valued knowledge of another language.
Previous experience in commercial airline especially in business class or first class and luxury hospitality and catering is positively assessed.
